Wrekin College is an independent co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 to 18 located in Wellington, Shropshire, England. Set in a campus of over 100 acres, the college is known locally as ‘The School in the Garden’ owing to its extensive grounds and playing fields. There are around 400 pupils in the school, of whom 120 are in the Sixth Form. The curriculum follows the normal path to GCSEs taken in the Fifth Form (Year 11) and A Level in the Sixth Form (Year 12).
Wrekin’s Sixth Form is an intelligent path to higher education; students complete their education ready for university and the wider world, with the ability to think creatively, the ability to take responsibility for their own learning, and the ability to work collaboratively. About a quarter of the Sixth Form students come from overseas and Wrekin offers high level support for those who are new to UK system. Entry into the Sixth Form for A Level is conditional on GCSE grades, reports from the student’s current school and interview. The Sixth Form gives you much more of an opportunity to make choices about what you study than so far in your school career, so there is not much point in choosing to study a subject you do not enjoy.
Almost all the student leavers move on to university in the UK with Nottingham and Liverpool being particularly popular and a percentage of our students progressing to ‘Oxbridge’ universities.
