Studying at Rochester Independent College combines academic rigour with a creative buzz. There's no uniform and students and staff are on first name terms.

RIC offers full boarding school for international students from 14-18 years old.

University places won by students at RIC in 2019 included Oxford for Chemistry, Cambridge for History, Economics at KCL, Physics at UCL, Biological Sciences at Durham, Medicine at KCL, Law at Bristol, Economics at Edinburgh, Palaeontology at Bristol, Computer Science at Warwick, Business Economics at Loughborough and Aerospace Engineering at Bath. The most popular university destination over the last few years for RIC students has been Exeter.

A-Level Academic Scholarships

A number of scholarships are awarded to highly academically and gifted students of up to 50% off tuition fees in the following areas: 

  • Maths and Sciences 
  • Social Sciences 
  • Film and Media 
  • Creative and Performing Arts 

The Visual Arts department at RIC is a creative and enriching environment which encourages its students to thrive, giving them the confidence to explore and develop their own personal style with support from experienced tutors offering expertise in a wide range of disciplines. Examination results are outstanding and a high number of students go on to study Art & Design related subjects at University or Art College.

Terms and Conditions

  • All applications received before the end of the closing date will be considered for scholarships. 
  • Scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first served basis until available scholarship funds have been exhausted. 
  • Scholarships will be awarded based on merit, at the sole discretion of the school. 
  • Any or all scholarship values published is an indicative value of the award and does not indicate the actual awards.

  • Submission of an application and meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically guarantee the applicant a scholarship.
  • Applicants must successfully meet all remaining conditions for entry to their chosen course.
  • Applicants must maintain excellent attendance and complete all work during their course.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. All applicants must register as students via 
  2. All applicants must make an application via the portal in order to qualify for the scholarship. 
  3. Scholarship covers tuition fees only. 
  4. Terms and conditions may apply.
  5. Applicants must submit a certified copy of their recent exam results upon request. (If your documents are in a language other than English, you must provide certified translations).. 
  6. Original test results must be produced in order to be considered for the scholarship.
  7. Open to students aged 14-18 years old.
  8. Minimum qualification for PreU, A-Level or Foundation: IGCSE, SPM
  9. English Language Requirement: 5.0 in IELTS (Academic Module) overall with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent.

The Ralph Steadman Art and Design Scholarship

  1. Submit 3 digital images of original artwork in any medium which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, textiles, 3D, film and/or graphic design
  2. Write a personal statement of no more than 500 words to support your application expressing artistic interests, aims, influences, materials and methods
